About Vanity Tested

Vanity Tested is an independent review site for beauty, hair, skincare, and grooming — the products people research for hours and still aren’t sure they’ve chosen right. We publish clear, honest buying guides that help you pick with confidence.

We started Vanity Tested for a simple reason. Beauty shopping is overwhelming. Every product promises miracles, influencer recommendations are often paid, and the difference between a $12 serum and a $120 one is rarely clear. When you’re putting something on your skin or hair every day, you deserve honest guidance, not hype.

What we do

We publish practical buying guides that answer the question you actually have: which one should I buy, and why. For every guide, we compare the options in a category the way a careful, skeptical shopper would — looking at what matters, the trade-offs nobody mentions, and what long-term owners consistently report after living with a product.

Our goal is to save you the hours of research and the risk of buying something that looks great in the listing but disappoints in real life.

How we choose products

We judge products on real results and honest value, not on packaging or marketing budgets. A serum with a beautiful bottle that does nothing for your skin isn’t a good pick. A drugstore product that outperforms a luxury one gets our recommendation, and we’ll tell you when the expensive option genuinely isn’t worth it.

A moisturizer that feels luxurious but breaks you out isn’t a recommendation. A cheap shampoo that beats the salon brand deserves to be named. We’re upfront about who a product suits, oily skin versus dry, fine hair versus coarse, and who should skip it.

When a category has a clear best option, we say so. When the “best” depends on your situation, we tell you which to pick for which case, rather than pretending one product is right for everyone.

Our independence

Vanity Tested is reader-supported. When you buy through links on our site, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That’s how we keep the site running. But that commission never decides our recommendations. We don’t accept payment from brands to be featured or ranked higher, and we’re just as willing to tell you to save your money when that’s the honest answer.

Our loyalty is to the reader, not the retailer. A recommendation you can’t trust is worthless, and we’d rather build something you come back to than earn a quick commission on a product we don’t believe in.
